Universidade Duas Marias by Rita Valadão

A dialogue between history and contemporary design. Set within the historic building of Rua Rodrigues Sampaio, in Lisbon, Universidade Duas Marias Lisboa is a project by interior designer Rita Valadão that celebrates the meeting between heritage, art and contemporary design.

The space was conceived to preserve the character of the building while adapting it to the identity and needs of the institution. High ceilings, historic architectural details, curated artworks and carefully selected materials come together in an environment shaped by elegance, warmth and purpose.

Mamoa had the pleasure of contributing to this project through the creation of bespoke furniture pieces, crafted by Portuguese artisans. Designed in natural wood with a carbonised finish, the consoles introduce an organic and sculptural presence to the interiors, reflecting a dialogue between nature, craftsmanship and form.

With asymmetric lines and a strong material expression, each piece was created to become both functional and symbolic, reinforcing the connection between art, design and the human dimension of the project.

A collaboration that honours Portuguese craftsmanship and celebrates design as a bridge between past, present and future.
